School was very important to George. He wanted to learn as much as he could.
When George was eleven, his father died and George became very close to his brother, Lawrence.
When George was growing up, America was still a colony that belonged to England.At 20 years old, George joined the army and fought in the French and Indian War.
George's brother died and George moved into his home called Mt. Vernon.George married Martha who had two children named Patsy and Jackie.
When the colonists decided they wanted to be free from England, they asked George to be the general of the army.
George said he would. The war lasted for eight years and was hard on everyone.
The troops went through freezing winters with very little food. But they never gave up.
In the end, the colonists won the war and formed a new country called America.
After the war, George was elected as the first president of the United States of America.
He served as President for eight years.George returned to Mt. Vernon to relax and run his farm.
He lived there for two more years before he got sick and died on December 14, 1799.
George Washington is known as "The Father of Our Country" because he helped to give us our freedom.
